I thought I'd post the insert I put in with my biographical cd trade for the
Imagination Tribe. I was rather disappointed that there were only four of us participating, but after having trouble with my Lightscribe cd writer, I'm glad I didn't have more to make! m-k, here's the insert text:
I thought it would be fun to kindof tell the story behind the songs I’ve chosen…I had to cut the cd down from the 60 I started with, so these are the ones that have “played the loudest” throughout my life. I tried my best to put them in chronological order ☺
“Can’t Smile Without You”, Barry Manilow… my parents say that I was a *terrible* sleeper as a baby, and they would play Barry for me every night. He’s still a favorite of mine.
“De Colores” (this version by Raffi) is a song that I grew up hearing in Southern Arizona. It’s the song that we always requested Mariachi bands to play, and that I still know all the words to! De Colores means “the colors” en ingles ☺
“I am Woman”, Helen Reddy… we had this on 8 track (along with The Eagles and Donnie&Marie) and it still gives me chills.
“Hello” by Lionel Richie, “Kiss is On My List” by Hall&Oates, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys, “Only the Good Die Young” by Billy Joel and “Hard Habit to Break” by Chicago were favorites during my school years…I had a boyfriend that used to tease me by singing the Billy Joel tune…”don’t make me wait, you Catholic girls start much too late.”
“Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz is one of my favorite tunes that another boyfriend covered with his band (college years) and “Under the Sea” makes me smile, because my first tattoo was of Sebastian from The Little Mermaid!
“Mi Vida Loca” (translation, My Crazy Life) by Pam Tillis is a song I sang with one of my bands. A fun song, representing a fun time in my (crazy) life. (DAMN! I was just listening and I burned the karaoke version onto the cds…guess my life is too crazy right now to be making this!! LOL)
“Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis…the song my husband, Dirk, sang for me on our second date. ☺ “I Wanna Stay Home” by the Jellyfish…one of our all-time favorite groups, and a song that reminds me of the early years…along with Tonic’s “Open Up Your Eyes.” “Playing With the Boys” is a throwback to early marriage & pilot training- and watching Top Gun a million times!
“Bananaphone” by Raffi…all four of us love this song, and have had SO much fun singing it together in the car. It reminds me of how happy my family makes me.
“Light in Your Eyes” is a beautiful song by Sheryl Crow. The words touch me, and it’s my go-to uplifting song…
“It’s Not Over” by Daughtry…this album came out right when we were having problems. We went to Chris’ concert and it was the first time I’d felt close to my hubby in a long time. Happy ending- I’m more in love than ever, and look forward to being married *another* 10 years (and another 10, and…)
“Always on Your Side” originally sung by Sheryl Crow and Sting…this version by me and my friend, Billy Scroggs. I added this one because I’m coming back to music…singing, playing piano…and it’s fabulous fun!! This was part of an audition video. We’re working on writing music together long distance and I look forward to see how that goes. It’s something new for me & it’s good to stretch myself.
“Thankful” by Josh Groban and “”Exactly” by Amy Steinberg are perfect for how I feel right now, at this very moment in my life…
Here’s to many more songs (and all the ones I couldn’t fit in) that will make up the soundtrack of my life.
